create a connection to an on-premise linked

Hi Newbie:  trying to get metadata out of a interworks IRIS database via ODBC   .  GetSchema methods etc do not seem to work . 
I do have the database exposed as a linked server but can not seem to configure it  via the IDE ? 

Any suggestion gratefully received.
 

More generally How do I get in metadata around a database via odbc connection ?  what methods are available? does it work ?
